Group Show: Catastrophe and the Power of Art

21/09/2018

Miyajima’s “Sea of Time-TOHOKU” (2018 Tokyo) will be exhibited in a group show focusing on how art deals with major catastrophes at Mori Art Museum, Tokyo.
Miyajima has been working on this project since 2015 to install a monumental work in the Tohoku area of Japan where the Great East Japan Earthquake struck in 2011. He was first able to realize and exhibit the work in 2017, through support of numerous participants who supported funding and time-setting of each LEDs.
This year, he had 87 school children to participate in the work by having each of them to time-set a green LED. The work is unique in a way that it conveys different expressions every time it is being installed.
Miyajima aims to have 3,000 people participate in the work eventually.
