The LED numbers count repeatedly from one to nine or nine to one.  Some of them count slowly, others fast: each at a different speed.  Miyajima held a workshop to let citizens of Denver set the speed of each device: The "time," "history," and "character" of Denver are recorded on it.  The LED numerals are a metaphor for "each person's life force," "each person's history" and "each person's time." The mirror is a metaphor for "en."  "En" is the Buddhist concept of "relationship" that states a human being can't exist independently.  One can exist only by relating to nature, through relationships with the universe and other people. The "Mirror LED" is meant to express the individuality of each Denver citizen and at the same time, reflects their "en" or relationship to those things in the mirror. The mirror LED reflects the interior structure of the building, other LEDs, and even visitors.  It makes this a community space that creates harmony among citizens, visitors and the building. Architect Libeskind, who designed the building, advocates the concept of "Nexus" or the revival of community. Miyajima proposes the "Art in You" concept, which states that art doesn't exist independently, but is created by each visitor.  Miyajima hopes that this artwork will stimulate visitor's sense of "discovery" to create "en" and build a new community.
