Solo Exhibition ‘To Sea of Time – TOHOKU‘ is on view at Akio Nagasawa Gallery Ginza till January 31, 2026.
Sea of Time – TOHOKU is a monumental site-specific project by artist Tatsuo Miyajima dedicated to commemorating the victims of the 3.11 Great East Japan Earthquake. It consists of 3,000 LED counters submerged in water, each with a flickering speed determined by a different individual to represent the unique “time” of a human life. By involving survivors and volunteers in the creative process, the project transforms a collective tragedy into a living memorial of prayer and resilience. This work will find its permanent home in a museum designed by Tsuyoshi Tane, destined to overlook the ocean from the heights of Fukushima.
