"In the realm of 'Intense Light Digit,' a conceptual space installation, blindingly intense light emanates and counts persistently in a pitch-dark environment, challenging the boundaries of visibility.
The counting cycle ranges from 0 to 9, resetting back to 0, with a unique twist: total darkness engulfs the space when the count reaches 0. The illuminated counts 1 through 9 symbolize 'life,' while the absolute darkness at 0 signifies 'death,' collectively embodying the eternal cycle of 'life and death.'
Strategically placed within a completely darkened room, one or two of these installations create a dynamic experience for the viewer. During the 'life' phase, the room bathes in radiant light, revealing every observer and the surrounding environment. However, during the 'death' phase, everything becomes invisible, even to those in close proximity, resembling the isolation of being cast into the vastness of the cosmos.
In essence,
1-9 = Light = Life = Visible = Existence = Being,
while conversely,
0 = Darkness = Invisible = Non-Existence = Nothingness.
By immersing themselves in the dynamic interplay of 'life and death,' spectators are invited to contemplate the grandeur, mystery, and magnitude of these fundamental concepts within the confines of this spatial experience.
Notably, the term 'Digit' encompasses the meaning of 'Arabic numeral' and simultaneously evokes the concept of a 'finger.' This dual meaning harks back to the human practice of counting with fingers, representing the origin of numerical cognition. The act of counting with 'fingers' gave rise to the conceptualization of quantity, eventually birthing notions of space, time, and the fundamental concepts of life and death, serving as a metaphorical foundation for this thought-provoking installation.
